Barbara Thomson

Barbara is a jewellery designer and maker, working from her home based studio in Bankfoot. Barbara launched her small jewellery business 'Silverpickle' in 2015. She is predominantly a self-taught jeweller, learning traditional techniques as she goes, and has developed a strong and recongnisable style of her own.

Aesthetic

Barbara's main focus is on her jewellery being eye catching and wearable, made to last and in a style that suits all age groups.  Her handmade process encapsulates both a charming refinement with a faintly rustic feel.  With a wide collection of designs, Barbara makes it easy to find a piece to reflect your own personality.  She is always looking for ways to incorporate movement into her pieces, making them both kinetic and tactile for the wearer, encouraging them to engage with the pieces.

Practice

Barbara has spent the last few years developing a series of signature pieces for her collection. Many of these have been created through a love of wax carving and delft clay sand casting in her workshop. Sand casting is an exciting way of enabling Barbara to reproduce her wax carved designs and also allows her to ensure she is recycling every fleck of silver from her workshop.

Barbara mainly works with sterling silver but enjoys incorporating pops of colour through the use of gemstones, sourced from around the world, and is using 9ct gold more and more in her designs. Barbara also takes bespoke orders. A lot of care and attention goes into the detail and finish of every single piece, each genuinely made with love.
