Perthshire Artisans and ceramicists Ceri White and Kerstin Robb are about to dive into exhibiting at their first Pittenweem Arts Festival! This is a biggy! It's an 8 day Arts Festival set in the beautifully preserved old fishing village of Pittenweem on the picturesque East Neuk of Fife and quite a unique experience, one we'd highly recommend!
Running from 3-10 August, Pittenweem Arts Festival is a community celebration of visual arts and quite different from other events. The town itself is the venue, with artists exhibiting from front rooms, quirky garages, gardens and garden sheds. There are over 140 talented artists taking part and you'll enjoy discovering their work in everyday spaces across the whole town, which is a delight to visit in itself. As this year is a first for both Ceri and Kerstin we asked them why now, and how it has impacted their work, they were both inspired for similar reasons.
Ceri visited Pittenweem Arts Festival last year as a day tourist:
I loved the incredible buzz and different things to see, and never thought a year later I'd be taking part! The prep involved in this has been incredibly intense, especially not having done this event before. But it shows what can be achieved when the pressure is on and has rapidly moved on my new designs for this year and given me ideas to take forward. Pittenweem and the East Neuk is absolutely one of my favourite parts of the world at any time of the year, so enjoying the sea breezes with my ceramics in the garden of Mangle Cottage (Venue 27) is not going to be a hardship and I can't wait!
Kerstin also visited in 2023 for the first time with a group of creative friends:
Someone jokingly said it would be fun to take part. Fast forward a few months and after a successful application, I'm really excited to be exhibiting alongside them. Being part of Pittenweem has been great motivation to return to sculpting and also create a set of illustrative tiles, in addition to the popular mugs and smaller pieces. It's such a lovely location, I'm very excited to be doing something new and really looking forward to it. You'll find us at Venue 81 (beside the car park).
Running from 3-10 August, you'll find everything you need to know about this event on the Pittenweem Arts Festival website. In addition to the many artists based across town, you can enjoy the work of 5 invited artists including Pauline Burbidge and Charles Poulsen, a celebrated textile artist, designer and quiltmaker and artist and sculptor respectively, who are based in the Scottish Borders.
A printed map in the Pittenweem Festival brochure (£3) will help you navigate your visit and is available from various locations across town and the festival box office at 47 High Street, Pittenweem which is open from 10-4pm. All info on Pittenweem Arts Festival, pop and see Ceri (venue 27) & Kerstin (venue 81) and enjoy your visit.
