Becoming a Perthshire Artisan

Jane shared these words with fellow members at the end of 2024 ahead of the seasonal break and genuinely sum up the joy and value of being a Perthshire Artisan, and are echoed by many members.


Being part of a vibrant community, where members are happy to support each other, collaborate and be ready to share knowledge, experiences and feedback means a great deal when you're a running a small business and working alone. As micro-business owners their challenges are similar, and membership of Perthshire Artisans opens doors to meet other creatives, access different resources and enjoy unique opportunities.


Set up and run in June 2020 by rural enterprise support organisation GrowBiz, Perthshire Artisans is a non-profit platform which exists solely to support Perthshire's creative sector to thrive and support their unique contribution to the local arts community, economy and cultural landscape.


Perthshire Artisans annual open call out for new creatives to apply to join is open throughout February. As part of a curated quality platform, successful applicants will find themselves having access to 'behind the scenes' support within weeks of joining, have their work and profiles shared publicly via the website, socials and newsletters within a couple of months and be able to join in future showcase opportunites, which for 2025 already includes a second Winter Exhibition at Birnams Arts. Being part of a community, feeling supported and having access to opportunities means a great deal when you're busy juggling the varied demands of being a creative and running your practice as a small business.


Members are invited to join our unique online forum where there are regular updates about all different kinds of events, opportunities, learning sessions, get togethers (online and in person), this ground level support is highly valued by existing members who know there is always a way to reach out and connect with other creatives.

Being known as a Perthshire Artisan and enjoying the benefits of having your work and practice promoted through the Perthshire Artisans social media and newsletters is an additional benefit complementing and adding to your own marketing.

Lastly, we're delighted that Perth UNESCO City of Craft and Folk Art are supporting our 2025 call out by offering a 1 year bursary membership to two emerging craft creatives, one for creatives under 30 years and one for creatives in the first 3 years of their practice.
