Understanding how something is made, hearing about the processes involved, seeing the materials and equipment first hand, and meeting the artist in their own workspace really connects you to the place, tells the story in person and makes your choice of artwork all the more meaningful.
These are just some of the reasons why 11 Perthshire Artisans are taking part in this year's Perthshire Open Studios Festival which runs from 6-11 September. Browsing and buying their work is of course another great reason to visit them!
If time is tight, or you simply want somewhere to start, Perthshire Open Studios are hosting a Festival Showcase event from 2-11 September at The Bield, Tibbermore, near Perth, where you can see a piece from each artist taking part and get an idea of the kind of work you’ll see when out and about.
You’ll find glass artist Lynn Shilp in the North West area, printmaker Sheila Roberts and glass artists Jane Drysdale and Mairi Urquhart in the West, painter/glass artist Suzanne Clements and jeweller Inez Jenkins in the North East and ceramicist Ceri White, artist Libby Scott, jeweller Diana Law, printmaker Saira Acosta Diaz, leather craftsman Daniel van Vuuren in the central area. Full details of their studio locations are on the Perthshire Open Studios website.
Reading their profile pages ahead of the event will help you plan who you’ll visit. Open Studios Festival is a great reason to get out and about, enjoy the scenery of Perthshire, and the creative talent we love supporting.
